Midland Holiday Inn Becomes First Certified Recovery Friendly Workplace in Midland County

Investing in recovery pays off!

Ten16 Recovery Network is proud to announce that the Midland Holiday Inn has officially become the first Midland-based business to earn certification as a Recovery Friendly Workplace (RFW) through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).

This recognition marks a powerful commitment by the Holiday Inn’s leadership team to foster a work environment that supports employees in recovery, promotes wellness for all staff, and strengthens the organization’s culture of care and inclusion.

“Becoming a Recovery Friendly Workplace aligns perfectly with our values,” said Rachel LaFrance, the hotel’s director of sales.  “Hospitality is about people, and that means creating a space where our employees feel supported, valued, and safe to bring their best selves to work every day.”

Through the RFW certification process, the Holiday Inn team completed three training modules focused on developing supportive policies, enhancing workplace safety, and building connections to local recovery resources. They also implemented action steps to promote employee well-being and prevent substance misuse, all while reinforcing the company’s reputation as a leader in people-first business practices.

According to research from MDHHS and the National Safety Council, recovery-friendly practices lead to improved retention, reduced absenteeism, and stronger workplace safety outcomes. These benefits are particularly impactful in industries facing workforce shortages or safety-sensitive environments, such as construction and hospitality.
