Peer Support

Learning the steps to a better way of living with your peers.

Dealing with addiction can be a struggle if you try to do it alone.  The good news is that you are not alone!  There are thousands of people in mid-Michigan just like you - people who are sustaining or looking to live a full life, free from relying on alcohol or other drugs.   Learning how to apply the principles of recovery is a daily choice.  Whether you have one month, one year or one decade, you can learn from others that have gone before you and found success.

Treatment is an important part of the journey, but a small part of the recovery process.  For most people, there is a need for more than what treatment alone can offer.  Peer support allows you to interact with recovery coaches, trained professionals in long-term recovery themselves, to reinforce the habits that you are learning and keep you connected to a healthy recovery community.  The awesome thing about peer support is that you can be involved with them during treatment and after treatment.  Research has shown that the longer a person stays engaged in recovery related activities, the stronger the likelihood you can stay free from alcohol or others drugs.

Peer Support opportunities include:

  • Recovery coaching - Meeting one-on-one with a certified Recovery Coach, they will help you develop a recovery plan and show you ways to move forward.
  • Peer-led support groups - An informal gathering of people just like you; sharing what is keeping you clean and sober today and learning from others when you are struggling.
  • Life skills classes - Learning how to apply recovery principles to the different parts of your life can be a challenge.  Whether learning how to be an effective, sober parent or a contributing employee, these classes give you an opportunity to learn healthy habits and practice these new skills.
  • Sober social events -  It is okay to have fun!  There is laughter and freedom in recovery.  These social events give you an opportunity to come together with others, in a safe, sober environment and enjoy games, good times and fellowship.

Get involved and give back!  Be sure to go to our "Get Involved / Volunteer" section of the website, and let us know how you would like to become involved in our peer support activities.
